Do You Have A Bad Bite?

The way your teeth fit together is known as occlusion.  The occlusion of your teeth can affect your gums, your teeth, your jaw joint, your jaw muscles, your neck and head, your ability to chew, and your oral health.  The ideal dental bite is one where your upper front teeth sit just in front of your lower front teeth and your back teeth fit into the groves of the opposing teeth.

The truth is that most of us have a functioning but less than ideal bite.  However, for some, having malocclusion, i.e. uneven biting or misaligned teeth, can cause significant problems.  Some common symptoms of a bad bite are excessive/uneven tooth wear, teeth breaking, teeth becoming mobile, pain in the jaw joint and/or jaw muscles, headaches, tooth sensitivity, difficulty chewing, and/or popping/clicking of the jaw joint.  The good news is that most of these bad bite (malocclusion) problems are treatable.   If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, give our reception team a ring to book an appointment or be sure to mention this to our dentists at your next dental check-up.
