Same-Day Contact
Call us as early in the day as possible so we can assess the situation over the phone and allocate the right appointment time. Our team will ask about your symptoms and give you appropriate first-aid guidance while you wait. If you're not an existing patient, please have your details ready — we welcome emergency patients regardless of whether you're registered with us.
Assessment & Diagnosis
At your appointment, your dentist carries out a careful examination to understand what's happening and why. X-rays are taken where needed to assess infection, root health, or the extent of any damage. We explain what we find clearly so you understand exactly what's involved.
Immediate Treatment
We carry out whatever treatment is necessary to relieve your pain and stabilise the situation at this visit — whether that's draining an abscess, replacing a lost restoration, treating a fractured tooth, or prescribing medication. Our aim is always to leave you significantly more comfortable than when you arrived.
Longer-Term Plan
Once the emergency is resolved, we discuss what, if anything, is needed next. Some emergencies require follow-up treatment — a root canal, a crown, or an extraction — which we plan and schedule at a time that suits you. We'll make sure you leave with a clear picture of what comes next and why.

Frequently Asked Questions About Emergency Dental Care

A dental emergency is any situation where you're in significant pain, have suffered trauma to the teeth or mouth, have signs of infection such as swelling, or have a dental problem causing serious disruption to eating, speaking, or daily life. You don't need to be certain it's an emergency to call us — if you're worried or in pain, we'd always rather hear from you and assess the situation than have you managing at home with over-the-counter pain relief. When in doubt, call.

Yes. We welcome emergency patients who are not currently registered with us. If you're in pain and need to be seen urgently, please call as early in the day as possible so we can fit you in. We'll take your details over the phone and do our best to see you the same day. If you choose to register with us after your emergency appointment, we'll be happy to arrange that.

Act quickly — the chances of successfully reimplanting a knocked-out tooth depend significantly on how fast you act. Pick the tooth up by the crown (the white part), not the root. Do not scrub or disinfect it. If possible, gently rinse it with milk or saline and either place it back in the socket yourself, keep it between your cheek and gum, or store it in a small container of milk. Call us immediately. Time is critical — ideally you want to be seen within 30 to 60 minutes of the injury.

Yes. A dental abscess is a bacterial infection and should be treated promptly. Left untreated, the infection can spread to surrounding teeth, the jaw, and in serious cases, to other parts of the body. If you have facial swelling, difficulty swallowing, or feel generally unwell alongside your dental pain, seek urgent care immediately — including going to A&E if your dental practice is closed. Call us as soon as we open and we will prioritise your appointment.

If you need urgent dental care outside of our opening hours, NHS 111 can advise you and direct you to an out-of-hours emergency dental service in your area. For severe swelling, difficulty breathing or swallowing, or other signs that the infection may be spreading, go to your nearest A&E department without delay. For non-urgent issues that can wait, call us first thing when we open and we will do our best to see you the same day.

A lost filling isn't always a same-day emergency, but it does need attention. The exposed tooth can be sensitive to temperature and pressure, and the open cavity is vulnerable to further decay. Avoid eating on that side and consider using a temporary dental repair kit from a pharmacy to protect the tooth until we can see you. Call us and we'll advise on urgency based on your symptoms — if you're in significant pain or the tooth is sharp and cutting your tongue or cheek, we'll prioritise you.
