Teeth Are For Life Not Just For Christmas

As the Christmas season approaches, we often get in a hurry to get things done.  There is a lot of shopping, cooking, entertaining, wrapping presents, socializing and errand running this time of year which means that we may not always be as careful as we should be in the choices we make. This is particularly true when it comes to protecting our teeth.

Remember that teeth are for life not just for Christmas.  The sole purpose of your teeth is for chewing food, and the goal is to keep your natural teeth healthy and in place in your mouth for as long as possible.  Using your teeth for anything other than chewing food will potentially result in broken or chipped teeth.  If the tooth breakage is severe, it can also potentially lead to tooth loss.  Severely cracked or fractured teeth is one of the leading causes of tooth loss.

Our teeth are not intended to be used to crack nuts, to open bottles, to tear tape, to open packages, or to hold things in lieu of using our hands, as illustrated in the photos.  Using your teeth as a tool for anything other than chewing food is a good way to cause tooth damage which may require emergency dental treatment.

This Holiday Season try to remember to protect those pearly whites from damage.   An emergency trip to the dentist over Christmas is not a fun way to spend the holidays.  However, should you have any dental concerns or dental problems, we are here to help.  We are open every day apart from the Bank Holidays.  Just give our reception team a ring on 01489 572308.
